App o Prof?

Ormai esiste un App per tutto: dall’App per scovare fantasmi a quella per ricordarci di bere acqua e tra quelle più utili non potevano certo mancare le App che ci permettono di apprendere svariate discipline.

Abbiamo più volte parlato della comodità di poter seguire corsi online che offrono il massimo della flessibilità oraria e geografica, ma quali sono le differenze tra esercitarci su un App o seguire un corso online con un/a professore/ssa?

Beh, le differenze sono molte.

Partiamo con il dire che vi sono App eccezionali in campo linguistico, programmi ben forniti dotati di algoritmi finemente elaborati e che offrono una vasta varietà di test ed esercitazioni.

L’aspetto che rende tali App accattivanti, inoltre, è che assumono tutte le sembianze di una piacevole distrazione (una sensazione non paragonabile a quella di avere in mano un manuale didattico!), ci fanno sentire meno impegnati, più divertiti, sono istantanee e ce le fanno preferire ad altre soluzioni.

Nonostante le loro funzionalità all’avanguardia però, nessuna App potrà mai davvero sostituire il valore di un insegnante. L’ App non è abbastanza per portaci all’obiettivo di padroneggiare una lingua, ciò che può offrici corrisponde solo ad una piccola parte di ciò che impareremmo in un corso fornito da un insegnante in carne ed ossa.

Partiamo con la possibilità di avere una persona con la quale confrontarsi in caso di dubbi, qualcuno che possa spiegarci in modo accurato un concetto nuovo o che a primo impatto ci sembra poco chiaro.

Continuiamo parlando dello sviluppo di tutte quelle abilità che completano la parte di memorizzazione di vocaboli e regole grammaticali, come ad esempio, la conversazione! Cosa aspettarsi dallo studio di una lingua, se non quello di essere in grado di comunicare, confrontarsi, fare domande, dare e ricevere risposte, abituare l’orecchio a diversi accenti e pronunce ed allenare il cervello a questo tipo di botta e risposta?

Il rapporto umano: l’insegnante non è solo un contenitore di nozioni.
E’ un motivatore, un supporto morale, un compagno che ti conduce al traguardo, un professionista in grado di analizzare i tuoi bisogni e designare un corso che li soddisfi.

Bisogna anche considerare la valutazione dei progressi: i test standard a risposta multipla sono ben lontani dall’essere in grado di valutare la conoscenza di una lingua, proprio per la complessità di tutti gli aspetti che la compongono. Un insegnante è in grado di analizzare i tuoi punti di forza e portarti a migliorare su quegli aspetti meno semplici da padroneggiare, è una risorsa incomparabile e non solo considerando il background accademico, ma soprattutto sbirciando dentro il suo bagaglio di vita.

L’insegnante è una finestra, mentre ti insegna una lingua, ti accompagna in un viaggio sorprendente alla scoperta della cultura, delle tradizione e del popolo che la parla.

In conclusione.. se facessimo affidamento esclusivamente alle App, finiremmo per memorizzare decine se non centinaia di vocaboli, senza però conoscerne le sfumature, i doppi sensi, l’ironia e senza avere mai occasione di utilizzarli nella vita di tutti i giorni.. ma la lingua, come sappiamo, è molto più di una lista di parole.

IL NOSTRO CONSIGLIO FINALE? L’UNIONE FA LA FORZA!

Non è un caso che le App abbiano riscosso tutto questo successo, sono ottimi strumenti per la memorizzazione e ve ne consigliamo l’utilizzo, soprattutto se in sostituzione di minuti (o ore) di scroll up and down sui social media, il modo migliore di usarle però, è in accompagnamento ad un corso guidato da un professore.

APP OR PROF?

Nowadays there’s an App for everything: from the App to chase ghosts to the one to remind ourself of drinking water – and among the most useful ones there are the Apps that allow us to learn various subjects.

We have repeatedly talked about the convenience of being able to take online courses that offer maximum flexibility in terms of time and space, but what are the differences between practicing on an App or taking an online course with a professor?

Well, there are many differences:
Let’s start by saying that there are exceptional language Apps, well equipped programs with precise algorithms that offer a wide variety of tests and exercises.

What makes these Apps appealing, moreover, is that they look like a pleasant distraction (a sensation not comparable to hold a teaching manual in our hand!), they make us feel less busy, more amused, and we prefer them to other solutions.

Despite their cutting-edge features, however, no App could ever really replace the value of a professor. The App is not enough to take us to the goal of mastering a language, what it can offer us corresponds only to a small part of what we would learn in a course provided by a professor.

Let’s start with the opportunity to have a person to talk to in case of doubt, someone who can accurately explain a new concept or a topic which seems unclear to us at first glance.

Let’s continue by talking about the development of all those skills that help the memorization of words and grammar rules, such as conversation! What can we expect from studying a language, if not to able to communicate, ask questions, give and receive answers, train the ear to different accents and pronunciations, and train the brain to this kind of exchange?

The human connection: a professor is not just a collector of notions. He is a motivator, a moral support, a companion who leads you to the goal, a professional able to analyze your needs and designate a course that satisfies them.

We must also consider the evaluation of your progress: the standard multiple-choice tests are far from being able to assess your knowledge of a language, because of the complexity of all its aspects. A professor is able to analyze your strengths and lead you to improve on those aspects that are less simple to master.

The teacher is an incomparable resource and not only considering the academic background, but particularly peeking into his or her wealth of experience.

The professor is a window, while he teaches you a language, he takes you on a surprising journey to discover the culture, the traditions and the people who speak it.

In conclusion… if we rely exclusively on Apps, we would end up memorizing dozens if not hundreds of words, without knowing the nuances, the double meanings, the irony and without ever having the chance to use them in everyday life; but language, as we know, is much more than a list of words.

OUR LAST ADVICE? UNITY IS STRENGTH!

It’s no coincidence that the Apps have been so successful, they are great tools for memorization and we recommend you to use them, especially if they replace minutes (or hours) of scroll up and down on social media, the best way to use them, however, is in combination with a course led by a professor.
